Flexible recovery device launched at SMM

25 September 2008
A FLEXIBLE man overboard retrieval system is being launched at SMM by Europe's leading marine safety company.
Cosalt's Personal Recovery Device (CPRD) was an important addition to its portfolio, said international sales director Kevin Robertson.
"The CPRD is a flexible, ladder-style device which enables casualties, conscious or unconscious, to be retrieved from the water in a horizontal position. This avoids further risk to the casualty or the rescuer," Mr Robertson said.
"A key feature is its flexibility. It comes in different sizes so that it can be tailored to suit the job it is needed for."
Mr Robertson went on: "It has also been designed for a variety of uses, including tug boat operators, standby vessels, cruise and ferry operators, Ministry of Defence establishments and coastguard and rescue organisations."
Fast rescue craft are catered for with the CPRD FRC kit which comes in two sizes. The kit is supplied in a robust high-visibility valise and is compact enough to be stowed in the craft.
The CPRD is also available in a Rescue Stretcher configuration for use with block and tackle or davit arrangements. The stretcher can be used in conjunction with a rescue swimmer and is also available in two sizes.
Larger sizes of the CPRD can be used as a scramble net on the side of a vessel and in rescue zones.
The CPRD can also be used for other applications where casualties are in a position to recover themselves from the water, such as in canal locks or on dock walls.
The servicing regime is every three years and this is available throughout Cosalt's 25 port locations around the North Sea and Mediterranean.
Mr Robertson said: "Our portfolio of marine safety products has been greatly enhanced by the CPRD. It is an important addition.
"It uses innovative design and technology to strengthen our position as a market leader and we are pleased to launch it in Hamburg at the world's top maritime industry trade fair."
A range of life-saving, rescue and fire-fighting equipment and services is being displayed by Cosalt at SMM.
Amongst other new products will be the company's Premier 2010 life-jacket.
Visitors will be welcomed to the Cosalt stand, B1.OG.410, at SMM 2008.
