Cosalt secures two-year contract extension from Network Rail

11 December 2009

Cosalt, a leading provider of critical safety equipment and services for the Offshore Oil & Gas and Marine industries, as well as protective clothing for people exposed to hostile environments, has been awarded a two-year extension to its existing contract with Network Rail.

The contract covers the supply of a wide range of rail compliant PPE clothing to approximately 18,000 wearers. This includes next-to-skin underwear through to second layer workwear and outer layer foul weather waterproofs, all in a range of high performance fabrics.  In total there are over 340 different garment options available to Network Rail staff in terms of style, colour and size.

Central to Network Rail's decision to extend Cosalt's contract has been the close working relationship the two organisations have enjoyed over many years.  Together they have developed garments that are not only fit for purpose but also surpass legislative requirements without compromising on wearer comfort and fit.  This has involved pushing the boundaries of innovative design and product testing.

Said Jon Crossland, Managing Director of Cosalt's Workwear business: "Network Rail has been one of our major customers for many years so we are very pleased to announce this extension to our contract. Our two organisations work extremely well together at every level because there is trust and respect on both sides.

"With over sixteen years' experience in the design, manufacture and supply of PPE and workwear to the rail industry, we understand what is required from a garment and how it has to perform.  We also appreciate the level of service demanded by Network Rail and the critical nature of equipping track side employees with the right PPE at the right time."

Last year Cosalt were nominated for an award from Network Rail for investing in an XML-based electronic trading solution to exchange purchase orders and invoices.  Orders now arrive within seconds of being created at Network Rail. These are then matched to the individual wearer's record held by Cosalt on their sophisticated Wardrobe Management System. A unique barcode is generated to tell Cosalt who has been issued with what and when.  This is used to track garments and ensure they are laundered regularly. The whole system reduces input errors, saves time and speeds up the process of distributing garments to Network Rail's trackside staff.
