Cosalt Extends its Firebuy Product Listing

27 February 2009
Cosalt has been supplying water rescue equipment to the fire and rescue services in England, Wales and Scotland for many years. Since 2000, the company has supplied over 85% of all UK fire brigades with lifejackets.
Under the new Firebuy framework agreement for lifejackets, buoyancy aids and flotation devices, Cosalt has been awarded a number of product listings.
The Crewfit 275N lifejacket is a light and flexible lifejacket that is available in three variations. The standard Crewfit 275N is available with hammar automatic inflation. The Crewfit 275N Plus version features an integral sprayhood and lifejacket light. There is also a Crewfit 275N with an integral deck safety harness. The lifejackets are approved to EN399 and PPE Directive (89/686/EEC).
The Ravine Personal Flotation Device (PFD) is ideal for providing additional buoyancy in rescue situations were a lifejacket is not practical. It is typically worn with a dry suit and it is sufficiently streamlined to allow the rescue crew to swim easily if required.
The Ravine offers 80N of buoyancy. It is manufactured from soft, comfortable PVC foam and has reflective panels for excellent visibility. There are multiple front and rear pockets for additional storage and a harness attachment point for rescue situations.
For more extreme applications, the fire and rescue services can call off a SOLAS MED approved twin chamber Seacrewsader 275N lifejacket that features two 60g CO2 cylinders that can be activated independently. Each chamber has an oral inflation tube with a 1.5psi relief valve to ensure full buoyancy is achieved during single or double chamber inflation. This feature enables the wearer to top up their lifejacket, if required.
In addition to the lifejackets and personal flotation device, Cosalt has also been awarded a listing for its Yak Throw Bag rescue lines in 15m, 20m and 25m lengths. These products feature a weighted bag containing a coiled line. Fitted with a waist strap, the bags can be carried hands-free.
Said Jan Southward, Cosalt's Business Unit Manager Fire: "We had been supplying the FRS market for many years but the business was given a real boost when our Crewfit 275N Plus lifejacket was specified for inclusion in the fire service's High Volume Pump (HVP) modules. There are 48 of these strategically located around the country. We also won the contract to service the lifejackets and all the fall arrest equipment included in the HVP.
"After this, our products were rolled out to fire brigades across the UK under the first national procurement contract, which was then administered under the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. Fire brigades were keen to specify the Crewfit because it was already being used on the HVP's."
Cosalt also supplies lifejackets to the Maritime Incident Response Group's 15 offshore firefighting teams located around the coast.
