Airbus experience helps Cosalt pick up new lifting contracts

29 December 2009
Cosalt's experience working for one of the world's leading aircraft manufacturers has helped the company's Birkenhead branch pick up a number of new lifting contracts. Most recently the company has secured work with Derbyshire based Aim Engineering Ltd to test specialist heavy lifting equipment. It has also won a contract to hire chain blocks, slings and A frames to Quigley Cranes in Birkenhead.
Starting in January 2010 Cosalt's existing contract with Ineos to inspect loose lifting gear onsite in Runcorn will be extended to include crane inspections as well. Additional lifting products and services will also be supplied to Vauxhall in Ellesmere Port and Merseyside Police.
The new business has been gained on the back of Cosalt's growing reputation for providing first class lifting products and services for the marine, industrial engineering and manufacturing sectors. This has been cemented by working with the global aircraft manufacturer Airbus for over seven years at their wing assembly site in Broughton, Flintshire.
Here Cosalt provided a number of specialist lifting services and built up a strong working relationship with the Airbus team. With over 30,000 items of loose lifting equipment on site, ranging from slings, shackles and eyebolts through to chain blocks, pull lifts and safety lines, Cosalt had to deliver a comprehensive planned preventative maintenance, inspection and repair work programme to keep Airbus's tool balances, winches, vertical workstations and lifting beams in full working order. At any one time Cosalt has had between two and five engineers permanently on site. This team has been supplemented by additional engineers from Cosalt's Birkenhead branch as the work demanded.
Commenting on the development of Cosalt's lifting business, Mark Revans, the company's Marine and Lifting Equipment Development Manager, said: "This side of our operations is expanding thanks to our growing reputation in the market. Contracts with major manufacturers like Airbus send out a clear signal to other businesses that we have the expertise and the resources to carry out all types of lifting work without compromising on our ability to deliver exceptional customer service."
Added Airbus's Site Lifting Co-Ordinator Mike Evans: "Cosalt deliver a first class service. They always go the extra mile and offer more than is expected. Above all we have benefited from their technical expertise and ability to solve problems. If any of our teams needed advice on how to lift or move a piece of equipment Cosalt's engineers have been on site and available to give us sound advice. They have the knack of explaining in straightforward language what equipment to use, as well as the skills to train our people in the correct way to use it."
