Ground-breaking lifejacket launched in Hamburg

25 September 2008

A top-of-the-range lifejacket which exceeds tougher safety at sea regulations is being launched at SMM by Europe's leading marine safety company.

Cosalt's Premier 2010 comes from the world-renowned Crewsaver design stable and is the result of an extensive three-year research and testing programme.

It has been specifically designed to conform to the new requirements of the Maritime Safety Committee, being introduced in July 2010.

Managing director of Cosalt's Marine Safety Division Andrew Richards said: "The Premier 2010 is a ground-breaking, quality product benefiting from our expertise and experience in marine safety over many years.

"It will outperform existing products by a considerable margin."

The Premier 2010 is easy to don, so perfect for use on any type of vessel, especially cruise ships, ferries and cargo vessels.

It will turn and keep the wearer afloat in the optimum position with good head support. The speed the product self rights has been improved to an average of 1.7 seconds as against the previous five seconds.

Adopting the new requirements, the Premier 2010 range will include additional features such as a lifting becket to aid retrieval and a releasable buoyant line which will enable people to 'buddy up'.

The colour of the standard range of products is international orange, although a high-visibility yellow is also available to help distinguish crew members.

The Premier 2010 is available in three sizes - adult, child and infant - all incorporating new features designed to minimise snagging.

Recess pockets enable a whistle, floating line and the cable of the water-activated lights to be stowed away neatly.

The Premier 2010 also has a new accessory, a removable hygiene cover that protects the frontal collar area from discolouration during muster drills.

The Premier 2010 has a patented design neck system that can adjust to the wearer's neck size.

The patented Reverse Angle head support is designed to hold the head at the optimum position for maximum in-water performance even if the wearer becomes unconscious.

Mr Richards said: "We are delighted to formally launch the Premier 2010 at the world's top maritime industry trade fair in Hamburg.

"SMM also gives us an opportunity to promote our growing international capability."

Following several acquisitions, Cosalt has 25 port locations around the North Sea and Mediterranean.

It is displaying a range of life-saving, rescue and fire-fighting equipment and services in Hamburg.

Mr Richards said: "This is the largest commercial marine exhibition in the world, with exhibitors from every marine nation and visitors from all sectors of the market, on a global scale.

"All sectors of the commercial marine market are of interest to Cosalt, but our key focus are the areas of life saving, rescue and fire fighting."

Amongst other new products on display will be the Cosalt's Personal Recovery Device.

Visitors will be welcomed to the Cosalt stand, B1.OG.410, at SMM 2008.
