INEOS Chlor
INEOS is the world's third largest chemicals company and a leading manufacturer of petrochemicals, specialty chemicals and oil products. Its 18 businesses span 14 countries and include 70 manufacturing facilities.
INEOS Chlor is part of the INEOS ChlorVinyls business - one of the major chlor-alkali producers in Europe, a global leader in chlorine derivatives and Europe's largest PVC manufacturer. ?Across all of INEOS's manufacturing sites, the focus is on maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental performance.
Cosalt has worked with INEOS Chlor for a number of years providing a range of lifting and inspection services at their massive 4.5 square mile facility in Runcorn. In fact the site is so large that Cosalt have two engineers permanently stationed on site.
Explained INEOS Chlor's Lifting Superintendent Neil McAleer: "It is a large site comprising various production plants each with their own lifting equipment. This includes fixed equipment like overhead cranes and lifting beams as well as loose equipment like swinging arms, chain blocks and slings. All of this has to be maintained and inspected every six or twelve months in order to comply with the LOLER regulations and ensure it is fit-for-purpose.
"Cosalt provides us with two full-time engineers to carry out all our inspections and sort out the paperwork so the certificates are available for the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) if required. These engineers also run our onsite lifting stores, inspecting and maintaining the equipment loaned out to our own riggers working on site. We buy most of our equipment from Cosalt in the first place so this arrangement works well. We know we are using a reputable company and the equipment is manufactured to a good standard."
Neil's team also works closely with one of Cosalt's key account managers. Regular meetings are held to co-ordinate and plan the ongoing inspection work, resolve any issues and ensure the service is running smoothly. Also on the agenda are discussions about any forthcoming legislation that may affect INEOS down the line.
"As well as taking responsibility for ensuring our inspection and maintenance programme runs as it should, Cosalt are our eyes and ears. They let us know what's coming up with regard to new legislation and provide expert advice on how best to respond. It's a very professional service. At the end of the day we are working in partnership and pooling our expertise to best advantage. They have never let us down, " added Neil.
